To mark World Mental Health Day, defender Kane Wilson along with Head of Football Operations James Mooney made a surprise visit to 88-year-old Bernard Twiddy.
With Mind’s latest research, revealing that more than 60% of adults and over two thirds of young people (68%) felt their mental health deteriorated during the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, encouraging conversations around our own mental health and that of others has never been more important.
Mind’s ‘do one thing’ campaign aims to inspire people to make one small change or take one action to look after their mental health. As part of the campaign, EFL clubs played their part and ‘do one thing’ to say thank you to someone deserving within their local communities.

Bernard turns 89-years-old in just over a weeks’ time – and he’s 'fit as a fiddle', completing dozens of press ups every morning. As part of our Tackling Loneliness Together Project, ran by FGR Community, he will be receiving letters/pictures from local school children and/or club young ambassadors. He has attended some FGR matches and has previously gifted tickets for family members, as well as coming along to our intergenerational days, prior to the pandemic.
An engineer by trade, Bernard shielded from May until late-summer and he has just started to get out and about. But, he has been really missing his normal activities, including volunteering for a number of organisations and helping at the local school with the sports clubs, PSALMS (Putting Sport Alongside Local Ministries) and messy church.
